On the evening of April 12, 2018 all Lassen County schools/districts received emails that included threats to commit harm on school campuses. The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office, Susanville Police Department, and California Highway Patrol will have increased patrol presence at campuses on the morning of April 13th while the threats were being investigated. Local law enforcement agencies have been working with area schools and the Lassen County Office of Education.
The email information was forwarded to the cybercrime unit of the FBI. It appears that the email address used to send the threats was “spoofed” and the threats are likely a hoax. A similar event happened in the UK 2-3 weeks ago.
The safety and security of our schools and children is of the utmost importance, and we take all threats to their safety very seriously. Anyone with information about these or other threats is encouraged to call the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office or Susanville Police Department.
Our district is asking all staff to remain vigilant today as they work around campus. We’d rather be overly cautious and safe and not miss something because we’re too casual. Should you have any questions, feel free to call the district office (530) 257-5134.
Bill McCabe, Principal/ Superintendent Lassen Union High School District

Superintendent's Message

I am your superintendent and I am here to be of service to all students, the staff, to the school community, and to the members of our board of education. My personal and professional mission is to ensure that every student in our school district receives the best and the most appropriate education while attending our schools. In order to accomplish this mission, we will need to have “all hands on deck.” Therefore, once again, I invite students, staff, parents, and board and community members to join me in making this school year the best ever for our students!

Bill McCabe

Welcome to the Lassen Union High School District website, where we are pleased to share information about our district, schools, operations and policies. Our two schools, Lassen High School and Community Day School, serve approximately 900 students and cover a very large geographic area. Within our district boundaries are the communities of Janesville, Johnstonville, Standish, Litchfield and Milford. We believe that good schools contribute to good communities and our teachers, administrators, support staff and Board of Education are committed to quality instructional programs. We have high expectations for student achievement and are equally committed to professional development for our staff. Our learning environment welcomes the community into our schools and teaches students and parents that we are part of the community and home-school partnership that serves as a foundation for student success.

This website will provide you with important information about our district and answer frequently asked questions. By visiting this website often you will be able to keep track of major events as they are scheduled throughout the year along with other important dates. The current website design team includes Gene Perkins and Andrea Rose.

We thank you for your interest in our school district. If there is any way that we can improve this site to make it a more useful tool in navigating your son or daughter’s education, please feel free to contact us at:

Upcoming Events

Lassen High School District is a traditional comprehensive accredited high school. However, recognizing the need to change and adapt, we are expanding our offerings in our career pathways. In addition to our strong pathways in agriculture, business, and the military, we are now, 2017-18, beginning a pathway in fire science called Emergency Responder. For the 2018-19 school year we will be adding a medical pathway that will prepare students for a career in a variety of medical fields. Lassen High School is also now offering, as part of LHS, a blended schedule with the opportunity to take some on-line courses and still be part of the athletic and extra-curricular programs here at Lassen.

Additionally, we offer all students a chance to participate in a wide variety of sports, clubs, state and national competitions, including Cadet Corps, trap shooting club, and now HOSA, our Future Health Professionals’ Organization.

Lassen continues to provide typical high school experiences like Homecoming, the Junior and Senior Prom, assemblies, and other high school traditional events that provide lifelong memories.

If you wish to enroll in Lassen High School for the 2017-2018 school year, the Counseling Office will be available to register new students:

Tuesday, June 6th and Wednesday, June 7th

8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Appointments can be made by calling the Counseling Office at 257-6857.

Students must bring a transcript (through the end of current school year), immunization records and a completed enrollment packet to the appointment. Enrollment packets are available in the Counseling Office. We look forward to meeting you and your educational needs!

About Us
In 1872, the first discussions were held to form a high school. It would take thirty years before it became a reality. For a while hope was on the horizon, when in 1875 Masillion Marstellar established the Susanville High School -a private institution. This school would continue to operate for six years when it finally closed its doors. HERE to continue reading.
